If you were wondering why The Rolling Stones only played two songs at Wednesday’s 12-12-12 concert, perhaps they were just saving their good stuff for last night’s 50th Anniversary Concert pay-per-view event, broadcast live from the Prudential Center in New Jersey. The legendary rock group brought out a very special guest last night in Tri-State native Lady Gaga, who performed a duet with singer Mick Jagger on the Stones’ classic “Gimme Shelter.” And boy, what is a performance to behold.

Gaga, who’s been out of the spotlight for the better part of 2012, might have forgotten how to perform like a human being in the meantime. Not that she’s ever been the most conventional of performers, but she came out last night in NJ in a striped bodysuit and gigantic platform heels, and from the second she bounced onto the stage, was an irrepressible blur of awkward energy, gesticulating wildly and constantly shimmying in one direction or another, looking halfway between Tina Turner and anAlice in Wonderland character. Even Mick Jagger had to look on amazement every now and again.

It’s a transfixing performance, in any event. Good to know that Gaga hasn’t lost the ability to stun (for one reason or another) during her downtime.
