If you're new to this let me bring you up to speed.  Last week a listener accidentally sent me a complaint email intended for my boss to me directly. After reading it and thinking long and hard I've decided to answer this person's issues and open the forum for discussion. 

"This is the only e-mail address I could find for 96.9 so I apologize if this isn't the appropriate place to comment.  96.9 has had DJ's in the morning that haven't been the best.  When Matthew came, I felt things had improved.  Why do you have AJ part of the morning show?  He does well with giving the traffic report, but I don't think he should give any comments. He doesn't have what it takes to do that on radio. I also think you are trying too hard to have followers with your ridiculous photos/comments.  This morning's comments on the intern's (?) shirt was the last straw for me.  I will find another station to follow.  I think Matthew has talent but find someone to take AJ's place and please improve on the topics you cover!"

Dear listener,

     Thank you so much for your email. Obviously you didn't mean to send it directly to me but I’m glad I got it.  First of all I agree with you that Mathew is a marked improvement over morning shows I’ve worked with in the past.  The atmosphere in the studio is one of fun while we are working hard to entertain you.

     Now on to the biggest problem you have with our  show. . . me.  I am sorry to hear you don’t enjoy my presence on the morning show.  I understand I’m never going to please everyone and that’s okay (hell I’ve put together a list of those people).  If it’s one thing I’ve learned in life is that you only improve in anything you do if you’re open to constructive criticism.  That’s where you come in.  If you could help me to understand exactly what I’m doing wrong and what I could be doing to keep you around that would be great.  I may not have “what it takes” but I want “what it takes” to entertain you.

     But please don’t stop there!  You feel we are “trying too hard” with posts on our Facebook and other social media.  What can we be doing to improve this situation?  Could you please provide examples of what a “ridiculous photo/comment” is so we can avoid such disasters in the future?

     Let’s work together to make listening to Mix 969 a much more enjoyable experience for you and everyone out there.

UPDATE!!! UPDATE!!!

So today I get an email from a listener with "Disgusted!" in the subject.  I was already having a crappy day and thought "Oh goodie, another one."  BUT it's not what you think.  The letter goes as follows

I'm not sure if this is where I am supposed to send complaints, but here goes!

I am thoroughly annoyed at the fact that AJ is entertaining and funny!
 I can't stand all the ridiculously funny pictures and articles he
puts on facebook.  I mean, seriously.. What's with that intern??!!!
Why is that funny?

I don't understand why he (and 96.9) can't be more like some of the
boring new stations we have.. The nerve of them trying to entertain
people!

Please please stop being informative, funny and all around FANTABULOUS!!!!
