I am actually writing this as a way to honor my dad. His name is Kenneth Markstrom. He graduated from Rio Salado College in 2003 at the age of 75. He is an amazing person. He had not attended school since the 11th grade and obtained his GED when he was 35. He put his mind to attending Rio Salado and to graduating. My dad is someone that I have always been able to look up to. Watching him walk proudly on the stage to accept his diploma with his kids and grandkids in the audience. I remember cheering as loud as possible while at the same time holding back the tears. I have always thought my dad was an amazing person, but that moment is something that will stay with me forever. He has taught me so much over the years and still continues to today. He is 82 now and is still very active. He volunteers for various organizations. My dad is a true success story for so many reasons and I am so proud to be able to share this story. He is my dad, my friend, and my hero.
