My co-worker Susan definitely deserves this!! Where do I begin? Susan's mother was seriously ill for many months last year. Susan spent countless hours with her in hospitals and nursing homes. Because her mother was so ill, it fell to Susan to also look after the 2 women whom her mother cared for at her home: Susan's adopted sister, who was born with spinabifida and is wheelchair bound, and 70 year old women (let's call her "M") who is developmentally challenged and also has medical conditions. After many months of suffering, Susan's mother did pass away last year, and Susan continues to look after her sister & M. Every morning, so goes to her mother's house to make sure they have what they need. Because M only has the mental capacity of 8 year old, Susan has to check her blood sugar, make sure she eats, showers, and takes all her medcations. She does this EVERY DAY, before coming to work at 7:30. Susan & her husband provide all transportation for both ladies to doctors appointments, grocery store, etc., and her sister quite frequently has to go to the emergency room (due to complications from the spina bifada.) On weekends, Susan spends time at her mother's home, cleaning and doing laundry (there is no wheelchair access down to the laundry room) while sitll having to care for her own household. If Susan did not continue to do this, both women would have NO WHERE to live, and would be on public assistance, if not in state funded assisted living facilities. In addition to doing all this DAILY, as well as working part time, Susan also has 2 daughters at home, along with her 2 year old grandson, whom she babysits so that her oldest daughter can attend college classes in the evening. Susan and her husband are the sole financial support for their grandson, as the "daddy" does not contribute at all. Money is always VERY tight for Susan and her husband, which adds to all of the OTHER stresses that Susan deals with on a daily basis. I have often wished that there was some way I could help ease their burdens just a little bit. PLEASE consider Susan for this! It would be such a gift to her, and I KNOW she would be so grateful. She is the most self-sacrificing person, and she deserves to get something back for a change.
